Summer Learning Challenge

Helping kids explore the world around them

Every summer, Chicago kids, from toddlers to teens, can participate in this FREE program that helps them explore the world around them through reading activities, and field trips, as well as hands-on science, engineering, art and design projects. The Summer Learning Challenge is designed to foster Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) learning and skills. Recognized as a national leader in summer programming for children, the Summer Learning Challenge helps prevent “summer slide”-that is, kids’ loss of reading and math skills that often occurs over the summer months.
