Balancing parenting and work can be a struggle, especially when it comes to doing homework assignments. Teachers in the Library are here to help.
Teacher in the Library, Leonetta is the program’s most staunch advocate. “It’s more than just homework help. It’s developing confidence among students. It’s empowering caregivers to guide their children. It’s giving people and communities access, resources, and opportunities to succeed,” she says.
Usually, patrons tried looking for jobs on their own, going from one company to the next, resume in hand only to receive the same response. Please apply online. For people with limited access and experience with computers, hearing these words meant their path to employment became more challenging. So, they head to the Library for help.
“One patron recently turned on the computer, logged into his account, and completed a short email. The look of triumph and the proud smile on his face was priceless.” For CyberNavigator Jill, it’s more than teaching tech. It’s helping patrons realize they, too, have a place in today’s digital world.
For one night, the Library’s most ardent champions and advocates gathered to raise more than $2.2 million in celebration of everything that the Library stands for−access, equity, and opportunity for every Chicagoan.
Dr. Eve L. Ewing is many things – an award-winning poet, an acclaimed author, a comic book writer, and most recently, the recipient of the 21st Century Award. But she is and will always be a child of the Library.
