Home for the Holidays: How to Make this Season Extra Warm and Fuzzy

Categories: Featured, Holidays

Happy holidays from our couches to yours.

The song lyric, “I’ll be home for the holidays” will have a different ring this year. What would usually be a parade of get-togethers, outings, and celebrations with loved ones has become a tempered affair as families decide to stay in and stay apart.

We know that spending the holidays at home is the responsible thing to do to protect the people we hold dear, but we also know that it doesn’t make the decision any less heartbreaking, especially after the topsy turvy that is 2020.

While nothing can replace gathering around a tree, opening presents, and feasting together, Chicago Public Library has some resources to make this holiday season extra cozy and warm.

Bake holiday cookies: Nothing soothes the soul like the aroma of fresh-baked holiday goods. Need some inspiration? Don’t worry; we got you covered. What are you waiting for? Ready, Set, Bake!       (You can even do a bake-off with families and friends.)

Catch up on some reading: A hot cocoa? Check. Fuzzy throw? Check. Warm fireplace? Check. Now you’re all set for some holiday reading. Here’s the Library’s Best of the Best books for 2020 especially curated by our librarians for you.

Make a holiday playlist: Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the holidays. Create a festive atmosphere by mixing and matching tunes sure to lift your spirits.

Send gifts from the heart: Although you may not be together physically, you can still send holiday love with thoughtful gifts. Check out the Library store for mugs, shirts, tote bags that will go well with their bookshelves and library cards!

Stay in, but make it fashion: Who said you can’t dress up while staying at home? Join wardrobe stylist and costume designer, Sal Syvat as she helps you elevate your wardrobe.

Travel around the world from your armchair: Now more than ever, why not indulge in your travel fantasies? Check out these titles to put you in a state of wanderlust.

The holiday season will be memorable in ways that we never could have imagined. We may be celebrating apart, but we are in this, TOGETHER.

In a year of plot twists, Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Public Library Foundation has come together to innovate and accelerate ways to reach Chicago and beyond. Thanks to you, we have shifted and create robust digital programming and learning resources for every Chicagoan. Your commitment to closing the academic opportunity gap, activating creation and creativity, and bridging the digital divide has transformed the lives of over 300,000 Chicagoans across 77 neighborhoods. As you think about your year-end giving plans, we hope you will consider making a gift at any level to continue building digital infrastructure and virtual programs to support patrons wherever they may be.

Thank you. Have a healthy and happy holiday from your Chicago Public Library Foundation Family!
