3 Maker Lab Events for the Food & Drink Lover Inspired by the One Book, One Chicago Pick

Ever wondered exactly what goes into roasting coffee or how you can decorate your party cupcakes like a pro? Bring your inner foodie to life at the Maker Lab!

In fact, for those of you who enjoyed our Books & Beer tasting event this past June, scroll down to #2 for a special treat, just for you. Inspired by this year’s One Book, One Chicago pick, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, we thought this series would be a great “appetizer”. Enjoy!

1. Coffee Roasting Basics – Monday, October 17, 2016 (6:00PM – 8:00PM)

Experts from The Pursuit Supply Company teach the basics of coffee roasting. Go through the process from green beans to roasted and ready to grind, view sample beans at various roasts and learn the signs to identify what stage your beans are in. You’ll learn about what to expect in the roasting process, how to use your visual, auditory and olfactory senses to monitor the progress of your coffee, and basic safety and proper roasting procedures. Move aside, baristas! You’re taking over the espresso bar.

2. Intro to Beer Brewing – Monday, October 24, 2016 (6:00PM – 8:00PM)

Experts from The Pursuit Supply Company will teach the basics of homebrewing in this class and demonstration. Learn about the essential steps to brew beer, talk a little bit about the history of beer and watch a demo of the beer brewing process. And we apologize in advance – no alcohol will be served during this class. However, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a pint with classmates after the session!

3. Cupcake Decorating Workshop – Tuesday, October 25, 2016 (1:30PM – 3:30PM)

Join cake decorator Emily Sweeney for this hands-on workshop. Participants will learn several different techniques for decorating cupcakes and take their creations home to both flaunt and to savor.
