Laura Hayes: History Fan Girl and E-Book Buff

Laura Hayes and “communication” go hand-in-hand. While she manages internal communications at Walgreens, she also plays an active role on the Communications Committee for the Chicago Public Library Foundation Junior Board.

Here, Laura shares her love of history and thoughts on her current reads.

What book are you currently reading? Would you recommend it and why/why not?

I just finished Slade House by David Mitchell – I don’t usually read a lot of fiction, but this book was well-constructed and had a great plot. I’m now reading Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future by Martin Ford, which offers an interesting perspective – particularly during this election season – about what’s really happening to American jobs.

What CPL branch library do you visit the most? Is there anything interesting about this branch/community that we should know about?

I visit the Merlo branch most often, but I prefer e-books for ease of portability (and no late fees).

What is your favorite thing about participating in the Chicago Public Library Foundation Junior Board?

I’ve enjoyed getting to know people from all different backgrounds, who all have something in common with me – the love of libraries!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I am a massive history buff and for me, no vacation is complete without a visit to at least one historical site.
