Literature & Libations

“My own experience has been that the tools I need for my trade are paper, tobacco, food, and a little whisky.” – William Faulkner

Please join the Chicago Public Library Foundation Junior Board for an event celebrating American distillers and American writers. A cocktail is known to cure a mild case of writer’s block, and there is no better place to savor a drink than The American Writers Museum.

Literature & Libations provides access to a brand-new gem in Chicago’s cultural landscape, The American Writers Museum. Be one of the first to check out our city’s newest literary hotspot with like-minded bibliophiles. From word waterfalls to signature scents, from vintage typewriters to cutting-edge interactive displays, The American Writers Museum will help you to embrace your inner novelist. Food and drink is provided to inspire you to write the Great American Novel.

To channel your inner author, come for the Early Access part of the evening and learn how to mix a couple of delicious drinks! Our friends at will lead a cocktail-making demonstration for bibliophiles who enjoy their stories with a dash of spirit. Best of all, you’ll get to enjoy those drinks as you learn how to make them. As an added bonus, museum staff will be on-hand to point out highlights of the space.

Early Access ticket holders will attend a cocktail-making demo from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. led by Julieta Campos, esteemed spirits judge at & head bartender at The Whistler. Two cocktails are included, followed by networking with complimentary beer/wine, appetizers, and museum access.

General Admission opens at 6:30 p.m. with networking, complimentary beer and wine, appetizers, and museum access.
